Screening solutions for grading spices

A leading spice manufacturer achieved high throughput with the installation of the Finex Ultima

Spices has always been an important ingredient when it comes to cooking and therefore, it is imperative for manufacturers to fulfil users demand and provide them best quality of product. Russell Finex has been working closely with many major food manufacturers such as Mondelez, Nestle, Gits, General Mills and Unilever to provide them with high- performance sieving and filtration solutions to improve their product quality and production efficiency.

For an upcoming project, a spice manufacturer approached Russell Finex for a separation solution for grading different spices. Having previously used a spring mounted separation machine for the last 20 years, the company wanted to buy the same technology machine for their new plant. As per their requirements, a Russell technical engineer introduced them the latest technology solution fpr spring mounted separation equipment, the Finex Ultima™, an ideal sieving machine for the food processing industry.

The Finex Ultima™ is an industrial vibro screen designed to provide benefits such as increased productivity, accurate grading, lower noise levels and tool-free assembly and disassembly. As well these benefits this vibro separator is fitted with a unique rubber suspension mount which helps to give maximum vibration to the sieve for consistent sieving, an open frame design to maintain machine hygiene, and high-quality stainless-steel contact parts for longevity.

Finex Ultima

After this consultation with the Russell Finex technical engineer, the Finex Ultima™ – specifically the 48” and 60” units – were suggested as the best solution to fit the spice manufacturers requirements. As spices have some oil content, the Vibrasonic® Deblinding System was also suggested, in order to prevent mesh blinding during the sieving process.

The Vibrasonic® Deblinding System is very popular in the food processing industry as it can easily be installed on any existing screens or separator. The ultrasonic deblinding system uses an ultrasonic frequency which breaks the surface tension to prevent mesh blinding. It provides benefits such as increased production output, consistent product quality, and reduces loss of good product and downtime as there is no need to change mesh as well as increases mesh life.

The team acknowledged the suggestions and without trial agreed to purchase 3 machines of the Finex Ultima™ 48” and 2 machines of 60” along with the Russell Vibrasonic® Deblinding System for their new plant. In order to meet specific requirements, a double deck machine was supplied with varying micron mesh sizes for the top and bottom mesh, enabling small batches to be graded. To safeguard operator’s health from dust and fumes during grading of spices, the machine was also enclosed and fitted with spigot feed inlet to connect to the production line.

Russell Finex is a global leader in manufacturing and supplying of sieving and filtration equipment serving many industries such as food, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, metal powders, coatings and many more.
