Efficient screening of lubricant soap

Russell Finex helps Hungarian manufacturer to recycle lubricant soap - reducing its annual consumption by at least 30%

D&D Drótáru Zrt. is a leading manufacturer of cold-drawn wire, stabilized pre-stressing wires, and stabilized pre-stressing strands in Central and Eastern Europe. Located in Miskolc, Hungary, the company is part of the Třinecké železárny - Moravia Steel Group. Its annual production capacity is close to 100,000 tons, 85% of which is exported to other European countries and the U.S.A.

The company manufactures 3-wire and 7-wire strands, which its customers use with beams covering long spans, bridge elements, large pre-stressed elements, piles, as well as pre-tensioned and post-tensioned structures. Most of its products are sold directly to concrete element manufacturers and contractors worldwide.

Dry wire drawing powder (or lubricant soap) is essential to reduce friction and wear during the wire drawing process. For the production of cold-drawn wire, the manufacturer uses about 7 to 8 tons of drawing powder per month. During cold forming, a significant quantity of usable powder becomes mixed with the 'burnt' drawing powder.

The manufacturer used two manual sieving stations to recover the usable lubricant soap from the collected mixture at the end of the production line. With this method, the company processed approximately 75 tons of used drawing powder each year. However, it was a slow, inefficient, and unhealthy process for the operators.

After purchasing a Finex Separator™, the manufacturer can now sieve the combined mixture a hundred times faster than the previous manual process and to a better quality. The manufacturer has reduced its consumption of fresh lubricant soap, which will help the company achieve its goal of reducing its annual consumption of lubricant soap by at least 30%.

What our clients say

"It was a great advantage to be able to test the machine for a longer period of time in our factory. A Russell Finex representative was on site to set up the machine to ensure the most efficient separation of the used lubricant soap."
