The Russell Compact Sieve® with an ultrasonic deblinding system ensures removal of contamination and free flow sieving of aerosil powder without mesh blockage

Aerosil, also known as fumed silica is highly sensitive chemical powder which has an extremely low bulk density and high surface area.

This substance acts as a very strong thickening and free flowing agent in powders, and is commonly used in many applications within the pharmaceutical industry including a coating agent for tablets, anti-caking agent for pharma powders and viscosity increasing agent. Apart from pharmaceuticals, it is also used in paints, coatings, adhesives and printing inks industries.

When sieving delicate powders such as aerosil it is important for manufacturers to remove oversize contamination. This is in order to achieve the optimum consistency and highest quality, as these factors directly influences quality of the final product.

This demonstration video shows how the Russell Compact Sieve® with the Vibrasonic® Deblinding System effectively removes oversize particle and contamination from the aerosil powder, preventing particles from blocking the mesh apertures.

The Russell Compact Sieve® ensures powders can be sieved in one operation, minimizing the risk of contamination whilst maintaining the product quality, ideal for lightweight products such as aerosil.

To prevent the mesh blinding caused by this fine powder, the Russell Vibrasonic® Deblinding System is used. This innovative unit can accurately grade any fine powder down to 20 microns by using and ultrasonic probe to clear the mesh of blocked product. The ultrasonic sifter increases sieving efficiency with consistent product quality and allows sieving equipment to run at its optimum level.
