How Nestlé guaranteed milk powder quality and met global standards with a high-performance vibro sifter

A case study in quality: Why a global leader chose the Russell Compact Sieve® for its critical final screening process

When a global food leader like Nestlé commissions a new milk powder plant, the primary goals are clear: uncompromising product quality, operational efficiency, and adherence to the industry’s most stringent food safety standards. Every single piece of equipment in the production line must perform reliably to achieve this.

The challenge: A critical final checkpoint

A critical step in milk powder production is the final check-screening process, which takes place just before packaging. This step is the final line of defense to ensure no oversized particles, scorched particles, or foreign contaminants make it into the final product.

Nestlé required a sieving machine for this task that could not only provide this absolute safety guarantee but also meet two other key criteria:

  1. High capacities: It had to process large volumes of milk powder without becoming a production bottleneck.
  1. Hygienic design: It needed to be easily and thoroughly cleaned to prevent any risk of contamination.

The solution: The Russell Compact Sieve®

After a thorough evaluation, Nestlé selected the Russell Compact Sieve® for its milk powder screening operations. This high-performance vibro sifter directly addressed all of their challenges:

  • High-capacity, compact design: The machine’s design provides a large, functional screening area in a small footprint. This allowed it to easily handle Nestlé’s high production capacities, screening milk powder at a finer mesh size than traditional sifters without compromising flow rates.
  • Superior hygienic design: Our vibro sifter is designed with minimal product contact parts and can be dismantled and reassembled in minutes without any tools. This “easy-clean” design was mandatory for Nestlé, allowing for rapid, validated cleaning and safeguarding product purity.
  • Enhanced operator safety: The enclosed design of the sieve contains fine powder dust, protecting the health and safety of operators in the packing area.

The successful implementation at Nestlé’s plant, detailed in our case study, is a powerful validation of the Russell Compact Sieve®’s performance. It demonstrates how a global leader in food production relies on this technology to guarantee product quality, meet global standards, and run an efficient, safe, and profitable operation.
