Office Olympics raise £2210 for Comic Relief

Russell Finex staff compete in office-themed challenges on Red Nose Day to raise money for charity

Red Nose Day 2017 saw staff compete in the inaugural Russell Finex Office Olympics. Having fundraised through various ‘bikeathons’ and triathlon challenges for Comic Relief and Sport Relief in recent years, the Office Olympics was a new event for the company, and a way of engaging with the ‘comic’ theme of Comic Relief.

Six teams competed across office-themed versions of swimming, diving, relay, rowing, shooting, discus, javelin, table tennis, volleyball and shot put. Individuals competed across three events each, hoping to come out on top of their respective event and earn points for their team. Particularly entertaining events included the diving, which involved bobbing for apples as quickly as possible, and javelin, a glorified paper aeroplane competition. In case you missed the action, the full video of the event is available here.

At the end of proceedings, the winners were Russell Reds, captained by Subsidiary Support Manager Gurpreet Jandu, who received their gold medals at an awards presentation, along with the second and third placed teams. Having helped set a championship record for the table tennis challenge, Gurpreet led his team by example and Russell Reds were worthy winners of the competition.

Participants were asked to raise sponsorship for taking part in the event, raising money for Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. A red nose themed bake sale was also held and in total £2210 was raised by Russell Finex staff, family and friends.

Ray Singh, Russell Finex Managing Director, said “The Office Olympics were a fun way of raising money and bringing together people from different departments in a light-hearted but competitive way. The most important thing was raising a superb amount of money for Comic Relief, supporting those less fortunate than ourselves.”

In the last two years, over 8 million people have benefitted from the money raised through Comic Relief and Sport Relief initiatives, and 2016 alone saw over £72 million raised. 50% of the proceeds support causes in the UK, and 50% goes towards transforming lives across the world’s poorest communities.

Russell Finex is committed to supporting the local community as well as national and international good causes, and would like to thank all who participated in the event and donated money.

Red Nose Day is an initiative of Comic Relief, registered charity 326568 (England/Wales); SC039730 (Scotland).
